1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how SodCode handles information when you use version 1.0.0 of the Bulk File Renamer Android app.
This policy applies to the app, not to Android, Google Play, a storage or document provider, a sharing destination, or another third-party service you choose to use with it. For information about the SodCode website, see our website privacy policy.
2. Privacy at a glance
- Bulk File Renamer does not require an account and does not provide cloud synchronization.
- You choose the files or folder the app can access through Android’s system document picker. The app does not request broad storage or media-library permission.
- Filename previewing, validation, renaming, recovery, and undo are handled on your device. The app does not read or upload file contents for renaming.
- The app may show non-personalized banner, interstitial, and optional rewarded interstitial ads supplied by Google Mobile Ads. Google’s consent tools are used where required.
- Settings, saved rule recipes, recovery records, and optional rename history are stored locally in app-private storage.
3. Files and folders the app accesses
Bulk File Renamer receives access only after you select individual files or a folder with Android’s system document picker. For a chosen file, the app may process its content URI, display name, parent identifier, MIME type, size, last-modified value, and whether its document provider reports that renaming is supported. For a chosen folder, the app also receives the folder name, provider label, and selected tree URI.
The app uses this metadata to list and filter files, calculate rename previews, detect invalid or conflicting names, perform the rename, report results, and attempt undo. It does not open, inspect, copy, or upload the contents of those files. Folder scanning is limited to 10,000 files, and subfolder scanning occurs only when you enable it. Directories themselves are not renamed.
4. Android document access
The app asks Android for read and write access to the items you select. Where the document provider supports it, Android may preserve that scoped access after the app closes so a selected folder can be listed again and an interrupted operation can continue. Bulk File Renamer does not request Android’s all-files access, legacy broad-storage permission, or photo, video, or audio-library permission.
A document provider can represent on-device storage, removable storage, or a cloud-backed service. If you choose a cloud-backed location, that provider may retrieve, store, or process file information while fulfilling Android document operations under its own terms and privacy policy. Bulk File Renamer does not control that provider.
5. Information stored on your device
The app can store the following in app-private local preferences:
- Settings such as theme, extension protection, confirmation, history, preview, and numbering preferences.
- Up to 20 saved rule recipes, including any find, replacement, prefix, suffix, regular-expression, spacing, case, trimming, or numbering values you enter.
- One active recovery journal while a rename or undo job is in progress. It can include a job title, timestamp, selected content URIs, original and requested filenames, actual result names, rules, status, and error details.
- If Keep operation history is enabled, up to 100 recent completed job records containing the same type of operation metadata.
- The most recent valid advertising configuration, including enabled and test-mode switches, ad unit IDs, and an update timestamp. Google’s advertising SDK may also keep consent and ad-delivery information on the device.
These records do not contain file contents. Depending on your device, Android version, manufacturer, and backup settings, Android or your device provider may back up eligible app-private data under that provider’s own privacy policy.
6. Network access, analytics, and advertising
Bulk File Renamer uses Google Mobile Ads to show banner and interstitial ads. After a completed rename, the app may also offer an optional rewarded interstitial: if you choose to watch it and earn the reward, ads are hidden until you close the app. Declining that offer does not limit any rename feature. Ad requests are marked as non-personalized and the maximum ad content rating is set to G.
Non-personalized ads are not selected from your past behavior, but Google may still process information such as app and device details, your IP address, the Android advertising ID or other identifiers, ad interactions, consent status, and diagnostic information for ad delivery, frequency limits, fraud prevention, and reporting. The app uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to request consent and provide privacy choices where required.
The app reads a small public Firebase Realtime Database record containing only the publisher’s ad enabled switch, test-or-live mode, banner, interstitial and rewarded-interstitial ad unit IDs, and an update timestamp. A valid copy is cached locally. The app does not attach filenames, folder names, document URIs, rule recipes, file contents, or operation history to ad or settings requests.
The current analytics implementation is a no-op and sends no events, and the app does not include developer-operated crash reporting. The app has no subscriptions or in-app purchases. Choosing Rate App opens Google Play, and choosing Share App opens Android’s share interface with a Google Play link.
7. Retention and deletion
An active recovery journal remains until the operation completes or you dismiss it. When history is enabled, the app retains the newest 100 completed jobs and removes older entries as new ones are saved. Disabling history stops new completed jobs from being added but does not delete history already stored. Saved recipes retain the newest 20 entries and replace older entries when the limit is exceeded.
You can remove the app’s local records and scoped access by clearing its app data or uninstalling it, subject to Android and any device-backup copies. You can also manage storage access and device backup through Android settings where those controls are available. Renamed files themselves remain in their storage location; clearing app data does not restore their previous names.
Google and other online providers retain advertising, consent, configuration, and support data under their own retention rules.
8. Information you send us
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, such as the app version, Android version, storage provider, issue description, or attachment. We use it to respond, investigate the request, protect the app, and meet legal obligations. Please do not send filenames, folder names, document URIs, files, or other sensitive information unless it is needed for your request and you are comfortable sharing it.
10. Your choices and rights
You control which files or folders to select, whether to include subfolders, which preview items to rename, whether to keep new operation history, and whether to contact or share information with us. You can revoke access or clear local app data through Android settings, reset or limit the Android advertising ID where supported, use the in-app Ad privacy choices item when Google requires it, or uninstall the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of personal information. Because the app has no account and does not send its local operation data to us, we may hold little or no app data that can be matched to you. Contact us to make a request concerning information you deliberately sent through support.
11. Children’s privacy
Bulk File Renamer is a general utility and is not directed to children under 13. It does not ask users to create an account or submit personal information, but the advertising and consent services described above may process device and ad-delivery information. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us through support, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.
12. Security
The app uses Android’s scoped document picker and app-private preferences to limit access and local storage. No method of storage is completely secure. Device access, operating-system backups, and the security of a selected storage provider are outside the app’s control, so protect your device and keep independent backups of important files.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Bulk File Renamer, its service providers, or legal requirements change. The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or its store listing where appropriate.
